Ndulula unfazed after shown door

Eastern Cape-born Kaizer Chiefs forward Bongani Ndulula is at peace with being put on transfer after what was a frustrating season for him.

He warmed the bench for the better part of his season-long stay at the Village.

His name appeared on a Chiefs press release listing those the club has “put on transfer”.

The 26-year-old from Aliwal North was roped in to Naturena at the beginning of the 2015-16 season amid much fanfare but he struggled to break into the starting 11.

The striker said all was well with his soul although there was no clarity as to where he would be headed next just yet.

However, he added, what was paramount would be to make a move that guaranteed him game time.

“It is fine by me because such is football and everything happens for a reason,” said Ndulula, who sounded so much at peace that he was constantly chuckling.

“I do not know where I am going next but I am positive I will find a club in the PSL.

“Most important is that wherever I go I should play regularly.”

Ndulula shot to fame when he was signed by Bloemfontein Celtic from then NFD side Blackburn Rovers seven years ago.

The marksman then moved to Orlando Pirates in 2010 before crossing over to AmaZulu three years later and joined Chiefs last year when Usuthu got relegated to the NFD.

It was at AmaZulu that the man going by the “Drogba” moniker cut his international football teeth and scored on his Bafana debut against Sudan.

But his stay at Naturena has not been a joyful one. He has failed to establish himself as starting 11 material, and managed only a few appearances from the bench.

Ndulula’s former coach at Blackburn, William Mugeyi, has some advice for the striker.

“I think he needs to start afresh from the so-called small teams, rebuild his confidence and work on his weaknesses.”

According to Mugeyi, it is these weaknesses that have been Ndulula’s downfall. He says they are easily identified by any coach.

“He lacks mobility and can be very lazy when it comes to marking.

“He is a very good player offensively but that cannot be enough in the modern game.”

Mugeyi believes it is not too late for Ndulula to resuscitate his career but hopes for his sake that he will look beyond the money issue.

One thing the former Pirates man cannot afford, said Mugeyi, is to be constantly on the move hopping from one PSL club to the other.

“A professional needs some level of stability. At the current rate he will find himself having played for all 16 PSL clubs. The best thing he can do is join one of the so-called small teams and rebuild his confidence.”
