Two held for murder of former police officer

East London police have arrested two women in connection with the murder of a former East London police officer.

Warrant Officer Harold Peters, 50, died at the Life St Dominics Hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala said Peters was assaulted in Quigney on Friday afternoon.

He sustained serious injuries and succumbed to his death.

Two women, both aged 31, have been arrested and charged with his murder.

They were due to appear in the East London Magistrate's Court tomorrow.

Peters joined the SAPS in 1986 and worked for the East London Public Order Police before being transferred to Inyibiba Police Station in Mdantsane where he served as a crime prevention officer. At the time of his retirement last year Peters was working as an evidence clerk for the police in Mdantsane.
