Premier to head indaba about service delivery in province

Premier Phumulo Masualle has summoned all his accounting officers and strategic senior managers to a conference, where they will be brainstorming on how to speed up service delivery in the province.

Under scrutiny will be the department of Health and Education who get the biggest slice of the provincial government budget. The conference being held at the Abbotsford Christian Centre comes a few months after national Treasury recalled more than R500-million meant for schools infrastructure after the provincial department failed to spend the money.

Health department shocked many when the Health portfolio committee compiled a report which revealed that taxpayers had to fork out more than R11-billion to settle litigations due to medical negligence in the past 11 years.  Government spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said: "This platform will see the Premier communicating his vision for the province and engaging the management on the urgency of accelerating service delivery, accounting on progress made in the implementation of government programmes and integrating government services for the benefit of the people."

Present at the conference so far is Housing HoD Gaster Sharpley, acting chief director curriculum management  Mzimhle Mabona as well as Department of Economic Affairs and Tourism HoD Bongani Gxilishe.
