Eastern Cape to probe school violence

Cellphone footage of  vicious fights among girls at two East London schools has prompted the Eastern Cape department of education to probe school violence and intensify school safety programmes.

The incident takes place on the school premises near a block of classrooms.

She proceeds to fly-kick the girls in their groins and slaps them across their faces repeatedly.

Fellow pupils, mostly boys, are heard and seen cheering on the fight, and one shouts “hit the b***h”.

The ordeal finally comes to an end for the two girls when they manage to run away.

The next incident occurs in front of John Bisseker High.

Without warning, a fight erupts with two girls punch each other in the face.

In the third clip, also of John Bisseker pupils, a girl is confronted by another before she is attacked by two girls.

The girl fights back and the fight is stopped by community members who intervene in the incident, which took place outside school premises.

Both principals at the schools earlier this week confirmed that disciplinary action was being taken.

The principal at Alphendale High, Gavin Appollos, said he has submitted an incident report to the department, which was dealing with the matter. — arethal@dispatch.co.za
