Bala strikes chord with Pastor Moen on album

Well-known Eastern Cape-born musician Loyiso Bala has teamed up with renowned American singer-songwriter Don Moen for his new album.

Speaking to the Saturday Dispatch yesterday, Bala said his latest album Kingdom Come , which was released early this month, was inspired by Matthew 6:10 which reads: “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”.

“This album is not aimed at the general market. It speaks directly to the church.

“There are more worship songs and really it’s time for us as the church to get in a servant relationship with God and just worship Him. This album is for the church as whole,” he said.

On the current album, Bala worked with leading American singer-songwriter, pastor and producer for Christian worship music, Don Moen on the remake of How Great Thou Art.

“Don is a legend and one would expect to hear a lot of demands when working with such an artist but he is humble. From the moment he was approached by MTN for the song he remembered me from the One Voice Conference.”

Bala said he was humbled by Moen’s humility. “He came to my house, we sat down and spoke and I was humbled by that. You wouldn’t expect that from a legend such as Don. Working with him was amazing.”

While they kept some parts of the classic hymn, Bala said he wrote a different verse for their song.

The two have also released a video of the song.

Bala released his first gospel offering Love Complete in 2012 and a second album titled PowerLove Sound in 2014.

Since his move from R&B to gospel, the well-known singer has travelled all over the country ministering in different denominations.

Bala said he was amazed how it had registered in peoples’ minds that he was now doing gospel music.

“Some people do not even know that I used to sing R&B. This move has given me a different platform.”

Although it had not been an easy journey for Bala, he said it had been fulfilling to know that he was following his calling in life.

“I knew this would not be easy. When I started gospel I was willing to lose everything but surprisingly, God has added more to me. My R&B journey was not a mistake, I believe it was part of my calling in life.”

When he first released his gospel album, Bala said he did not know he would go as far as having two more.

“When I am working on an album I never leave out any songs. I always pour out my heart but I knew that as long as I had a passion for the gospel then I would continue singing about it,” he said, adding that he was still as passionate as he was when he first started gospel music.

The album is currently available on iTunes and will be available in stores nationwide next month. Bala said he was hoping to bring his latest album to the East London, among many cities he wanted to visit. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
