Ruling party are thieves – Holomisa

“THE ANC-led government can no longer be trusted because they are thieves.”

This was UDM president Bantu Holomisa’s message in Buffalo City Metro and in OR Tambo district during a weekend roadshow in parts of the province.

In Dimbaza on Saturday, Holomisa urged hundreds of voters to bring change to BCM by outvoting the ANC come August3.

And in Mthatha yesterday, the UDM leader chanted “down with thieves, down” as he started addressing about 300 excited party supporters.

Holomisa welcomed about 50 new members to his party, said to be former ANC members, at a community hall in Slovo township in Ward 12.

Addressing the new recruits, Holomisa said: “Welcome home. You are coming to the UDM at a time they are fighting over positions and who should benefit first in the ANC.”

Speaking for the new members, Thozama Myeki said they had defected because they were tired of being taken for granted.

She had been a loyal member of the ANC for more than 15 years, but had decided “enough is enough”.

“The electricity, water and toilets in this area came with the UDM – I speak the honest truth,” she said to applause.

“We decided to join the UDM because we know what it can do.

“We have seen it deliver.

“In the ANC we realised we were not being treated with respect because we would decide who we wanted to be our councillor candidate but then some people in the ANC would decide who the candidate will be.”

Holomisa addressed about 200 people from around East London and King William’s Town who had gathered at Moses Twebe Great Hall in Dimbaza on Saturday for the party’s mini-rally.

He said the UDM was the only party in parliament brave enough to call out ANC members for being “thieves”.

“It has become clear that the ANC we trusted has been hijacked by criminals because of the way they work,” he said.

“Even in parliament if the thieves do not listen I tell them that those thieves do not listen,” he said to applause.

“The UDM is the only party in parliament that tells them... that they are thieves. As a result they don’t even answer us because they know that they are thieves.

“You must give up on this government because they do not care for the people.”

Over the weekend he led the party’s roadshow in BCM, where party leaders visited Mzamomhle in Gonubie, Nompumelelo in Beacon Bay and Kanana in Potsdam before going to Dimbaza.

During a door-to-door and walkabout campaign in Nompumelelo, Holomisa wrote down residents’ problems and challenges, and said he would raise some of the issues in a manner they would receive BCM’s attention.

In the different areas he was given a warm welcome by the residents, who thanked him for coming in person to hear of their challenges. The party has promised voters that through its manifesto it will put communities first.

Its promises include fighting corruption and lawlessness and lowering levels of poverty and unemployment.

Holomisa further promised that his party would improve the provision of basic services including water, electricity, and refuse removal.

“Go out on August 3 and free yourselves from corrupt municipalities that do not provide jobs and those that only fight for positions to better themselves,” said UDM provincial spokesman Mabandla Gogo.
