EC clergy feel ANC only party to lead the country

The ANC was today described by religious leaders as the only “Moses” that could lead South African people out of their quagmire, and that the party was the only one “chosen by God” to lead this country.

This was the message delivered by the clergy yesterday when they hosted various prayer meetings and a peace march in East London.

The march, which was led by various religious and ANC leaders, such as defence minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and Buffalo City Metro mayor Alfred Mtsi, was attended by more than 2000 people, mostly ANC supporters.

The clergy believes that the party was “anointed by God” to lead the country and that it will be “against God’s will” if the party was toppled from power after the August local government elections.

Speaking to the media, the Eastern Cape provincial council of churches’ Reverend Phumezo Jaxa said it was through God’s divine that the party was in power and that the party “was the only tool that can take South Africa forward”.

“We are praying for the smooth running of the upcoming elections. We are here to pray for the government of the ANC and the leadership that has been elected by the party and which we are confident will win these coming elections.

“We do this because we believe as the church that all is not lost because God is still with the ANC. The ANC is the Moses of the day and God has chosen them, through His divine interventions, to lead the people of this country and this region away from poverty and marginalisation and into a better world,” Jaxa said.

Jaxa added that, “we as the church understand that we have not yet reached our promised land, but we also understand that the ANC was the only tool that can take us from point A to point B because God is still with the ANC”.
