THE winter school holidays have officially started today, which means it is time to spend some quality time with your children and other little ones in your life.

The month-long winter holiday, sometimes does not at all make it easy to keep children entertained at home for long periods of time.

East London moms and dads need not despair however, as there are plenty of activities to keep their little ones occupied. The all-human Australian Circus Spectacular which started yesterday at Old Selbornian Club is in the city until July 17, and is just one of the many options to kick-start the holiday fun activities.

Weber Bros entertainment head of marketing and advertising, Michael Carrigan, said patrons could expect to see stunning circus artistry and acrobatics on the ground – and in the air – with hilarious slapstick comedy thrown in, and one of the world’s only surviving human cannonball acts, taking place right over the heads of the audience.

Tickets costbetween R200-R400 for adult s and R150-R350 for children under the age of 14.

Primary school pupils (Grade 1 to 7) who would like to learn more about the Bible can join the City Life Church’s holiday bootcamp.

Programme organiser, Pastor Mark Dickinson said the bootcamp offers “fun and games with Jesus as the centre”. The bootcamp runs from July 12 until July 15 at the church located in Quigney.

Registration forms can be obtained at the church from Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm and entry is free. If your children are the adventurous type, then the Nahoon Beach-based Jonginenge holiday adventure programme for kids will be suitable for them.

Programme director Dean Knox Jonginenge said the programme offers the “most exciting” holiday adventure in East London.

“We offer a safe beach experience for kids, while they learn new skills and make friends,” he said.

Children between (the ages of) seven and 16 years can do sand-boarding, take up surfing lessons, canoe trails, go snorkeling and fishing and much more.

“We meet at the Nahoon Surf Lifesavers’ Club each morning and children can be collected from the same place at 2pm. All water activities are facilitated by qualified lifeguards,” Jonginenge said.

Those over the age of 12 who intend to fish should be in possession of a fishing licence which can be obtained from the post office. The programme takes place every school holiday, Monday to Friday, from 8am-2pm and it costs R150 per person per day or R700 for a week. — arethal@dispatch.co.za
