Designers around the world aspire to have their designs showcased on the red carpet at major award ceremonies – and South African star, Nandi Mngoma, did just that‚ and stole the show with her debut creation.

The actress and musician wowed US fashion critics when she took to the 2016 BET Awards’ red carpet on Sunday‚ dressed in a creation from her upcoming fashion line.

Draped in a monochrome mermaid dress‚ Nandi made the best-dressed lists on both Elle US and E! News.

She was the only female African to do so.

Praising her designs‚ E! News wrote: “Work that dress.”

The singer has announced that the dress is the first piece from her fashion line‚ called Colour‚ which will be launched during AFI Fashion Week in August.

Talking to Sunday Times‚ Mngoma confirmed that she had collaborated with designer Inga Madyibi on the range and revealed her inspirations.

“The label is called Colour. “It’s such a cool and fluid name‚ and doesn’t restrict us to anything.

“We’ll play with texture and fabrics‚ but our focus will be on African designs.

“We don’t want to do typical African print styles but people will have to wait to see the outcome of it because Inga also design with wood and so many different elements‚” Mngoma said.

Mngoma is dating well-known musician Zakes Bantwini.

Bantwini also took to Instagram celebrating Mngoma’s stunning dress feature on E-entertainment.

He shared a picture of Mngoma alongside Hollywood stars Megan Good, Tracee Ellis Ross and Janelle Monae, who were all among the best red carpet looks on eonline’s website.

He went on to say: “Proudest moment” #Eonline #worldstage #betbestdressed #amongthestars #fashion #colour.”

While Mngoma’s dress trended on Twitter, pregnancy rumours gained momentum on social media as well, with various online sites reporting that Mngoma’s baby bump was spotted while she walked the BET red carpet.

Adding to the pregnancy rumours, others also said the two were married.

Bantwini’s post about buying some land may have contributed to the rumours.

He posted a video on Instagram walking around a piece of land. He captioned the video: “Planning my family’s future today. #bestlife #bestcountryintheworld #futurehouse.”

He went on to thank Lawrence Ndimande – a friend – for the piece of land.

This led to many believing Bantwini had purchased the land for his pregnant wife.

The Skhanda Love singer has denied being pregnant and shrugged off marriage rumours.

“I don’t know who said I’m married‚ but apparently I am. And I have put on a lot of weight in the past few months‚ but I’m not pregnant‚” she told the publication.
