Acting National Police Commissioner General Khomotso Phahlane has appointed Major-General Liziwe Ntshinga as the new provincial police commissioner of the Eastern Cape.
Ntshinga is the current head of the Free State Hawks, a position she held for just five months.
She was promoted in January to the Free State after a five-year stint as a head of the Hawks in the Northen Cape.
In an internal memo sent to staff and signed by Phahlane this morning, the Commissioner wished Ntshinga well in her new post effective from today.
She replaces Lieutenant-General Celiwe Binta in the R1.4-million per annum post.
Ntshinga joined the South African Police Service in 1985. She has been in the service for 30 years, 23 years of them as a detective.
Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi expressed his feelings on the changes.
"It is a sad loss, however we are also proud of the calibre of senior officers within the DPCI. Gen Ntshinga managed two provinces and as a woman stood the test of time tackling serious crime. We are confident that the people of the Eastern Cape are getting a lady with guts, confidence and a no-nonsense taker. We wish her the best in her new post and as the Hawks we commit to support her in all her endeavours."
