Oscar's father furious with Barry Roux

Oscar Pistorius’ father‚ Henke‚ is an angry man.

Breaking his silence shortly after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said it would appeal the “shockingly lenient” sentence imposed on the athlete‚ he told Rapport newspaper that he was furious with defence advocate Barry Roux.

“I remained silent for too long. I stood back. Now that’s over‚” he said.

He claimed that Roux‚ Oscar’s attorney and his brother Arnold had repeatedly ignored his advice about the case. Henke‚ an attorney‚ said his advice related to the trajectory of bullets fired into the bathroom door was “simply wiped away”.

He also tore into state prosecutor‚ advocate Gerrie Nel‚ saying that he had fed the court “misleading lies” after showing a video of Pistorius shooting a watermelon and later asking the athlete if he didn’t know that Reeva’s head would also “explode‚ like a watermelon”.

The gun in the video was apparently 10 times more powerful than the murder weapon‚ according to ballistic expert Wollie Wolmarans.

The “personal pleasure” that Nel drew from the case‚ “isn’t just a reflection on who he is‚ but detracts from the critical importance of pure‚ fair thinking in our otherwise proud justice system. For anybody to apply ‘their own type of justice’ with falsehood‚ lies and twisted ‘facts’ doesn’t contribute to or build our proud Roman-Dutch law‚” Henke fumed during the interview.

Henke said he had visited Oscar in jail on a few occasions‚ but they did not say much. “We hug each other‚ but not a lot is said. Because I am the father‚ and a mistake was made‚ a tragic mistake.”
