New executive appointments at SABC

The South African Broadcasting Corporation announced the appointments of four new executives on Monday.

SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago said Simon Tebele had been appointed as Group Executive for SABC News and Current Affairs‚ Tsheliso Ralitabo as Group Executive for Media Technology Infrastructure and Tshifhiwa Mulaudzi as Group Executive for Commercial Enterprises.

Kevin Green‚ the National Sales Manager: TV Sales was appointed General Manager: Television Sales‚ a position that was previously held by Mulaudzi.

“These appointees bring a vast knowledge and experience within the respective business units. They are all not new to the SABC as they have served as Senior Managers within the respective divisions they are appointed to‚” said Kganyago.

In further reshuffling of portfolios‚ Bessie Tugwana‚ who was responsible for SABC Sport‚ will now head the organization’s Corporate Affairs division and Sully Motsweni will take over SABC Sport.

Nomsa Philiso who was the Group Executive responsible for the Corporation’s Commercial Enterprises division will now head SABC Television.

“Collectively‚ the incumbents have served the organization for many years in Senior and Executive positions‚” the SABC statement said.

The appointments are effective from Monday‚ 1 August and “are aimed at continuously maximising the organization’s business efficiency and delivering on the public service mandate diligently as expected“.

“The SABC has expressed confidence in these appointments and believe that they will strengthen the SABC’s core business and the public service mandate‚” said Kganyago.

The national broadcaster has been in the news lately‚ albeit more for its firings than its appointments.

Last Wednesday the SABC reinstated seven journalists who had earlier in the day been blocked from returning to work‚ following an order by the Labour Court that their dismissals were unlawful.
