Two men accused of hacking to death a Tsolo man and dumping pieces of him in a toilet pit were denied bail by the Tsolo Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Siphamandla Gwebani, 23, of Ntibane farms and his co-accused Bonginkosi Xumbeka, 26, of Mncetyana village, 26, were caught by police on Wednesday at around 9pm. They are believed to have used an axe to cut the deceased into five pieces.

Facing charges of murder each they appeared in court yesterday but were not asked to plead. The case was postponed to next Thursday and they were remanded in custody.

OR Tambo regional National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Luxolo Tyali said the case had been postponed for bail application and for their profiles.

In another gruesome killing, a 33-year-old man was found with his throat slit, dog bites and stab wounds on Wednesday. He was discovered by Mthatha police in Slovo Park – an area in Mthatha West notorious for its high levels of crime.

His body was found around 7am with massive wounds to his throat and lower body.

Mthatha Police spokesman Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said the 33-year-old man had been visiting a cousin from Libode.

He vowed that police would leave no stone unturned in their quest to bring the alleged culprits to book.

“At the moment the case is still under investigation. No arrests have been made yet. But the police will make sure that we bring the person or persons responsible for the killing to book so that they will face the full might of the law,” he said.

The Slovo Park killing has left some community members fearing for their lives. Mthatha West community leader Simosakhe Memani condemned the latest killing, saying one death was one too many.

Fatyela urged anyone with information that might lead to arrests in connection with the Slovo Park killing to contact Lieutenant-Colonel Bongani Ntanjane on 082-513-2061. — ndamasem@dispatch.co.za
