Ramaphosa steps in for Zuma to deliver eulogy at Stofile funeral

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has been handed eulogy duties Thursday’s Special Official Funeral for the late Reverend Makhenkesi Stofile.

The Presidency said in a statement that President Jacob Zuma‚ who was scheduled to deliver that speech‚ will no longer be able to do so as he “will travel to Nairobi‚ in the Republic of Kenya to participate in the 6th Summit of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development”.

“President Zuma has once again extended his deepest condolences to the Stofile family‚” the statement added.

It also said that preparations for the funeral “are at an advanced stage”.

Stofile — a former minister of sport and recreation and former premier of the Eastern Cape – died last Monday.

On Tuesday‚ “the official Special Memorial Service was held …at the Abbortsford Christian Centre in East London‚ where tributes continued to pour in for the late ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany”‚ the Presidency said.

Thursday’s funeral takes place at the Sports Complex of the University of Fort Hare in Alice‚ “where Reverend Stofile was a student‚ became a lecturer and was later the university chancellor until the time of his passing on Monday‚ 15 August 2016”. – Tiso Black Star Group Digital
