Classes were disrupted at the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ’s) Soweto campus on Wednesday when angry protesters stormed into lecture rooms and forced fellow students to leave.

“They removed us from class and they are now heading to the library. We do not know what is going to happen there‚” one of the students told Tiso Black Star Group Digital.

UJ students returned from a week’s break and everything seemed normal until the #FeesMustFall movement started disrupting classes. Students also gathered at UJ’s Auckland Park campus‚ disrupting some of the classes.

The campaign has resulted in the destruction of property at various institutions across the country.

Last week‚ students began violent protests at Wits and other universities following an announcement by the Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande that fees would rise by a maximum of 8%. However‚ Nzimande said fees for students qualifying for funding under the National Student Financial Aid Scheme‚ as well as the so-called missing middle‚ would not increase in 2017.
