Punches, fists and cellphones flew at a meeting held between the Minister of Water and Sanitation, the Amatola Water Board, its management and union members in East London at the weekend.
Chaos ensued between regional members of the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) and the union’s provincial executive committee (PEC) while Minister Nomvula Mokonyane was in discussion with Amatola Water board members regarding strike action by Amatola Water employees who were demanding that its chairwoman, Nokulunga Mnqeta, be removed.
