The Panayiotou murder trial is set to resume in the Port Elizabeth High Court on Monday morning with state witness Clarishka Kapp expected to return to the stand for cross-examination by the defence.

Kapp‚ whose best friend Chanelle Coutts was having an affair with Christopher Panayiotou‚ was the last witness to be called during the first week of the trial.

She told the court how Coutts and Panayiotou often spent time together while Panayiotou’s wife‚ Jayde Panayiotou‚ was away from home. Coutts sometimes slept over at their house.

Other evidence also emerged during the first week‚ including chilling details of Jayde’s final moments as she shielded her face from one last bullet – the fatal shot to the head after she had already been shot twice in the back and paralysed.

Her husband is accused of her murder along with Sinethemba Nemembe and Zolani Sibeko. They have pleaded not guilty to charges including kidnapping‚ robbery‚ illegal possession of a firearm and murder. – Tiso Black Star Group Digital/The Herald
