Man accused of causing Top Billing presenter's death started driving at 11pm‚ hours before the accident

The first trip Preshalin Naidoo‚ the man accused of causing the death of Top Billing presenter Simba Mhere‚ made was at around 11pm‚ hours before the fatal accident took place.

This is according to Car Track fleet manager Lorenz Stoger‚ who on Tuesday told the Randburg Magistrate’s Court that the tracking device the company fits into cars‚ allows it and the owner of the vehicle to monitor its movements.

The device also allows the company to measure driver behaviour and the vehicle’s location.

Stoger explained that once the car is turned on‚ Car Track is able to identify the exact location and position of the vehicle. It also signals alerts of speeding‚ harsh braking and abrupt turning.

“The product fitted allows customers to keep an eye of the whereabouts of their vehicle‚” said Stoger.

“Trip number one started at 11.14 pm on 30 January 2015.”

Mhere and his friend Kady-Shay O’Bryan‚ who was a passenger in the car Mhere was driving‚ died at the scene of the accident on William Nicol Drive in Fourways‚ Johannesburg on January 31‚ 2015.

The trial continues.
