BCM irregular spend R226m

More than R200-million of public funds from Buffalo City Metro coffers was spent irregularly in the last financial year, according to mayor Xola Pakati.

Forensic investigations are on the go, Pakati said in a report to the city council recently.

He reported that legal specialists and the Auditor-General were involved in the review.

The new irregular expenditure figure, amounting to around R226-million including VAT, was submitted before council last month.

Calls for “heads to roll” came after Pakati highlighted a number of irregularities, including procurements made outside of supply chain management regulations in the fourth quarter of the 2015-16 financial year.
