Thirteen people were injured early on Thursday after a bus collided with three bakkies on the M7 in Pinetown‚ KwaZulu-Natal.

Several people were found walking around the scene when paramedics arrived.

“Upon closer inspection‚ paramedics discovered that 13 people from the three bakkies had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. One of the patients‚ a man‚ lay trapped inside one of the vehicles‚” said ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring.

“Paramedics carefully extricated the man from the vehicle and thereafter treated all the patients for their injuries. Once treated‚ all the patients were transported to St Augustines Hospital for further treatment‚” he said.

Passengers on the bus were not injured

“It is understood that the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle‚ causing it to rear-end the three bakkies‚” said a statement from Meiring.

An investigation is underway.
