Unionist Thobile Ntola, who was fired this year as the principal of Chubekile High School in Port Elizabeth, has taken the education department to court, demanding to be reinstated.

He is one of many government employees who had been on sick leave for prolonged periods. His axing comes after Eastern Cape premier Phumulo Masualle demanded that all MECs deal with public servants on sick leave for months and sometimes years, still drawing salaries.
