Mystery  has surrounded a sudden eruption of water streaming along Cambridge Street on Thursday morning.

This after a pool of water emerged along the pavement and across the street next to the old, historic Daily Dispatch building, provincial department of transport and Amathole Buildings. Although traffic had not been held up by the pop-up pool, pedestrians were singing a different tune.

Yanga Ziwele said it  was just after 7.30am while he was on his way to work when he saw the pool of water.

“It was a difficult morning for pedestrians like myself, because we had to be very strategic when crossing the road with all that water on the road. Cars were just driving through it and the water was obviously splashing everywhere.

“I was fascinated with the slow flow of water but I didn’t have time to investigate although I was very curious, so I just took pictures. Water seemed to be heading from the upper parts of Cambridge Street.

Buffalo City Metro spokesman Sibusiso Cindi said they were not aware of the water incident.

“At the moment , no one has reported any reports of flooding to Disaster Management that took place this morning in Cambridge and Caxton streets.”
