Hawks probe EC graft

A special task team has been formed by the Hawks in Pretoria to investigate what they term “worsening corruption” in three Eastern Cape municipalities.

OR Tambo district municipality, Engcobo local municipality and the troubled Mnquma local municipality’s finances will be under the microscope as the elite crime-fighting unit descends upon the three rural municipalities.

The task team, appointed by the national head of the Hawks Lieutenant-General Mthandazo Ntlemeza, will be led by a brigadier with extensive experience and specialised skills.

It is expected to begin its work soon. Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the name of the officer would not be divulged for security reasons.
