The Eastern Cape department of health last week launched a “minor clean-up roadtrip” to ambulance bases in the Amathole district and Buffalo City Metro, which were exposed by the Daily Dispatch to be in filthy condition.

EMS Amathole district manager Simphiwe Bokoda and his deputy, Zandisile Bushet, spent last week visiting neglected bases in Alice, Butterworth and Cathcart.

Broken ambulances left unattended at the Butterworth base were taken away by tow trucks.
