'These cases disappear into thin air'

Komani police have shelved the investigation into the rape of a two-year-old girl as she is “unable to tell them” who assaulted her.

This despite a medical examination showing the girl was sexually assaulted.

Police spokeswoman Captain Namhla Mdleleni said the rape docket opened with the Komani family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit (FCS), had not been closed.

The Dispatch asked Mdleleni to explain what steps police had taken to prove that the docket was still being investigated.

Mdleleni said: “The child will be taken to the Bhisho Trauma Centre today as part of the investigation.”
