A warrant officer, based in Mthatha, and a security guard were killed last night when a car they were travelling in overturned between Tsolo and Maclear.
Mthatha police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said the incident happened near Ntywenka around 10.30pm.
The deceased policeman, 35, was working in the Madeira police station while the security guard worked for a private company.
"The policeman was working out of Madeira police station in Mthatha. He worked as a court orderly in Maclear and was returning from court there when the incident happened."
Fatyela however could not give out the name of the deceased policeman until his next of kin had been notified.
