Two killed, eight wounded in EC on-going taxi violence

Two people died and eight others were injured at Libode's Ntlaza Taxi rank this evening as a result of the on-going taxi violence in the area.

Those who died include a woman who was hit by a stray bullet. She died at the scene. A taxi driver also died at the scene after he was assaulted by a group of angry people.

Health department spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said eight people, including a nurse, taxi operators, passengers and workers at the nearby supermarket were rushed to St Barnabas Hospital with assault and gunshot wounds.

“Three of them had head and abdominal injuries and were referred to Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha in critical condition. Two of them had cracked skulls,” he said
