EL man in court for allegedly raping a prostitute

A 29-year-old man appeared in the East London Magistrate's Court this morning for allegedly raping a prostitute.

The incident occurred in a park near the Eastern Beach on the afternoon of July 4.

The man who cannot be named because he has not yet pleaded, told the court that he had not raped the 26-year-old sex worker.

"I bought her for R50 and when we were done having sex she demanded an extra R20. I refused to give her and she started insulting me and I insulted her back. She then told me that she is going to report me to the police for raping her and robbing her," the man told the court.

The case was postponed to August 14 for further investigation.
