No bail for murder accused

Fuzile Hanise, the 30-year-old father of murdered 10-year-old Liyema Dutywa, together with his two co-accused, Asanda Mbhele, 23, and 27-year-old Manduleli Majova, have been denied bail by the Libode Magistrate's Court.

Magistrate Vuyisile Yaliwe said he had considered many things before making a ruling on their bail applications, including how granting them bail would impact on public peace.

He also said there were potential witnesses who would feel intimidated if they were released on bail.

Scores of Libode residents who had converged outside the court erupted in celebration when the news was broken by those who had been allowed inside the court.

Some were seen hugging and dancing while others broke into song. Inside, some members of the public were seen rushing to hug state prosecutor Nomava Buso immediately after the court had adjourned.

The three suspects were arrested early last month after Liyema was taken from her school and driven into a forest near Tsolo where she was suffocated with a plastic bag and then shot on the chest and left to die, allegedly by the three suspects.
