Cash truck heist gang on the run

A six- member gang that robbed an SBV cash truck before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash meant for several ATMs is still on the run.

A case of armed robbery was opened with the Eastern Cape Organised Crime Unit following Friday morning’s daring robbery at Malcomess Mall in Southernwood.

Three armed SBV guards were attacked and disarmed at around 7am, moments after stopping at an Absa ATM at the mall.

The guards were abducted and driven in the truck before being dumped 600m away in Usher Street. The robbers then fled towards the North-East Expressway in a getaway car.

East London police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala said: “We can confirm the three guards suffered minor injuries from the attack.” — malibongwed@dispatch.co.za
