Class boycott by University of Fort Hare students in the East London campus has entered its second week.
More than 300 nursing students have not been attending classes since Monday last week. They are demanding the removal of the acting departmental head, Ntombana Rala whom they accuse of “running the department as her own farm.”
At least three students have been served with letters of intended suspensions for being part of the demonstrations that seek to remove Rala.
In a meeting with student leaders last week, it was agreed that Rala will be moved to work with post-graduate students, but the students want her removed from the department.
The students also want the university management to uplift the letters of intended suspensions on the three students or issue them to all students.
On Thursday last week, the university management issued a letter to students to return to class by Friday, an order that students defied.
University vice-chancellor Sakhela Buhlungu is expected to address the students on Thursday.
