Two suspects linked to the murder of popular Bishop Thembinkosi Fandaleki briefly appeared in the Mthatha Magistrate's Court.

Mfundo Mafa and Babini Mangala appeared before magistrate Sihle Mzileni with both their hands and feet chained.

This prompted the magistrate to ask why they had been chained but was told by the prosecutor that a correctional officer who brought them to court had described them as "very dangerous" and a flight risk.

The two suspects appeared in court for two separate cases. In the first case they face charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and attempted murder.

In another unrelated case believed to be connected to Fandaleki's murder, the two suspects are facing  a murder charge, two counts of possession of unlicensed firearms, two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The case was postponed to August 25, to allow the state time to verify their addresses and to obtain their criminal profiles.
