Hundreds of University of Fort Hare students have agreed that they are going to embark on a stay away from Monday.
The decision was taken in a meeting held this afternoon at the East London campus where they were discussing their issues, mainly the nursing students who have boycotted classes since Monday last week.
They are accusing the university management of dragging its feet in resolving the issue.
More than 300 nursing students at the campus have been boycotting classes since Monday last week.
They are demanding the removal of the department's acting head Ntombana Rala.
She is accused of sabotaging students by deregistering them without any reason.
"We urge all students to unite in this matter and support our fellow students. Today it's them, tomorrow it might be us. We need to unite and show the management that we are one," said one student at the meeting.
The majority of students are suggesting a stayaway as from Monday until the management meet their demands by removing Rala.
At least three students have been served with notices of intended suspension for their alleged involvement in demonstrations that is aimed at removing Rala.
The meeting is still under way.
Last week, the management served the students with a notice to return to classes by Friday. An order they defied. The management further threatened to shut down the department for the remainder of the year if they did not return to classes.
"Our leaders should meet with the VC and give them the message that do not want Rala in our department," another student said.
The students have agreed on a stay away since Monday.
They want the VC to come and address them.
