It's cold front after cold front for the Eastern Cape with snow-capped peaks getting another dollop of flakes last night.
Motorists are urged to be vigilant when driving in the high ground.
After last week’s blitz of snow on the foothills and ranges comes two more fronts today and tomorrow.
It will be so cold this week that the highest temperature will be only 18°C today, said Garth Sampson, of the SA Weather Services spokesman in Port Elizabeth yesterday.
Very strong west to north-westerly gales hit the province yesterday between Plettenberg Bay and East London and spread to Port St Johns in the afternoon.
More snow was expected to fall last night, but it would be light, said Sampson.
This snow will fall on last week’s snow, although in the southern Drakensberg quite a bit of mountain snow had melted, said Dave Walker of Walkerbouts Inn at Rhodes Village yesterday.
Sneeuberg, Winterberg and higher peaks of the escarpment would all get snow, said Sampson.
“The most promising area for snow is the Winterberg tonight ,” he said. The second cold front sweeps in tonight.
“It will once again introduce cold windy weather over the region with rainfall being restricted to the coastal areas only on Thursday and Friday,” said Sampson.
Sampson appealed for commuters to be careful on the mountain roads even though the intensity of the fronts would not be of the same magnitude as last week.
