Elderly women from Ngangelizwe township in Mthatha who started a sewing and knitting project were yesterday celebrated by the Eastern Cape government with a gift of 100 chairs, mattresses and industrial sewing machines.
Premier Phumulo Masualle donated the machines and mattresses while the executive mayor of King Sabata Dalindyebo Dumani Zozo donated the 100 chairs as well as a laptop and a printer.
Nonkosi Ndobeni who is a member of the project said they started it in order to improve their living standards and welfare. She said any income generated by the centre goes back to financing the daily operations of the project.
