State to seek life term for Gonubie killer

The prosecuting authority is to seek life imprisonment for a 35-year-old man who confessed to murdering Gonubie pensioner Marlene Cairns in her 12th Avenue home in January.

Cairns, 75, died on the scene after she was stabbed in the neck with her own kitchen knife, allegedly by Mkhuseli Tovane, on the afternoon of January 2. Her 77-year-old husband, Neil Cairns, was stabbed in the chest but survived.
