Students from other faculties have joined their nursing counterparts in calling for the removal of University of Fort Hare nursing acting head of department Ntombana Rala to be removed.

Hundreds of students protested outside the university’s campus on Wednesday as calls for Rala to be axed gain momentum.

On Monday students held a mass meeting where it was agreed they should all join in the stayaway.

Nursing students have been boycotting classes since the beginning of last month demanding to see the back of Rala.

On Tuesday, the SRC wrote to the university chancellor, Dumisa Ntsebeza to intervene in the issue.

The act of solidarity from other students will result in a memorandum of demands being submitted to the institution’s management. Police are monitoring the peaceful protest.
