She has played a murderer, a sheik’s assistant and a young mom baking a princess cake – and now former East Londoner Micharn Pollock has her sights set firmly on Los Angeles, the world’s movie-making capital.
Pollock, 33, who grew up in East London, plans to join her international model sister Gabrielle Pollock, 24, in California and make the big time.
Gabrielle has appeared in major fashion campaigns in South Africa, the US and Europe for leading brands, including Maybelline, and recently did a shoot for luxury brand Givenchy.
The Pollock sisters are the daughters of well-known East London photographer Rob Pollock and his wife, Jan.
“I have wonderful friends and family in East London. Having a solid foundation and support is necessary to survive the film and modelling industry,” she said.
Pollock, who has a business science degree from the University of Cape Town, can be seen on the small screen in a national supermarket chain commercial, cracking egg yolks and beating batter before presenting a little girl with a Barbie doll cake.
Another current TV advert required her to learn the ropes of a new gaming console.
Having owned a clothing design business for eight years, Pollock decided to pursue her love of modelling and acting when she moved to Cape Town three years ago.
One of her biggest breakthroughs has been playing the role of murderer Nadia Palacios for the Crime and Investigation channel’s Killer Instinct with Chris Hansen.
Another acting highlight has been shooting a comedy thriller with a celebrity Pakistani cast called Maloom Afraad 2 in which she appeared as a sheikh’s assistant.
Having already worked with influential director Gabriele Muccino who directed The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith, Pollock wants to explore new possibilities in Los Angeles.
