The number of deaths on Eastern Cape roads has risen to 11 as the long weekend draws to an end. Accidents yesterday morning claimed four lives, and seven on Saturday.
Three people were fatally wounded in a horror head-on collision on the N2 between Nanaga and Port Elizabeth yesterday. A black Mercedes-Benz and a white Audi A2 collided on high impact, instantly killing a male and female occupant in the Mercedes, and the female driver who was travelling alone in the Audi.
Provincial health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said the three other occupants in the Mercedes-Benz were rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Also yesterday, a taxi driver lost his life after he lost control of his taxi while travelling on the R61 between Misty Mount and Mthatha. His passenger was rushed to hospital.
On Saturday a man and three women died in a minibus taxi that collided with a truck, and another three people were killed at Emaqhinebeni near Mthatha.
