Burnt body of girl, 13, confirmed

Police have confirmed that a burnt body found at an illegal dumping site in Mlungisi, Komani, is that of 13-year-old Vuyolwethu Hemeni, who disappeared on August 25.

Vuyolwethu had been on her way home from school when she disappeared.

A burnt corpse was found at the dumpsite after residents saw a dog carrying a burnt human leg.

After the DNA tests were completed, SAPS members had to deliver the heartbreaking news to the family, who were still hoping to see their daughter alive.

Komani police spokeswoman Captain Namhla Mdleleni said: “From the DNA tests taken from the remains of the burnt body and the mother of the victim, I can confirm that the burnt body is that of Vuyolwethu Hemeni. We have communicated the matter with the family.”
