Mother and daughter gunned down at home

A Woman and her daughter were shot and killed in their home at Mchonco Village in Ngqeleni on Friday night.

Police spokeswoman Captain Dineo Koena said it was alleged the daughter and her twin brother, 28, had been watching TV when they heard gunshots.

“The daughter went to her mother’s room to see if she was safe. It is further alleged that the two gunmen, after shooting through the mother’s window, kicked the door open, instructed her son to hide and went to his mother’s room and fled the scene afterwards.”

Koena said both women had been shot in the upper body.

“Five empty cartridges of a pistol were collected from the scene.

“We urge anyone with information to come forward and the information will be treated as confidential,” Koena said.

  • Determined to tackle violent crime in the province, police detectives teamed up with the Mthatha National Intervention Unit to conduct an intelligence-driven operation last week.

This saw the arrest of 12 suspects at Luthubeni Locality Kwaaiman near Mqanduli in connection with a kidnapping and assault case opened at Kwaaiman police station in August.

They appeared in the Mqanduli Magistrate’s Court on Friday and will appear in court again today for a formal bail application.
