Anti-trafficking march: Lobby group to raise awareness on EL streets

With the reported number of human trafficking cases escalating every year around the world, an international NGO is doing its bit to raise awareness – one step at a time.

Global anti-human trafficking group A21 will embark on an anti-trafficking march in East London on October 14.

A study by the University of Johannesburg on human trafficking a year ago found that 49% of the victims were aged between 19 and 25 – most of them women.

It found that 93.4% of the victims of abduction ended up as drug mules, some as domestic workers and gardeners.

The Walk for Freedom in East London next Saturday is aimed at raising awareness of trafficking and raising funds for victims.

A21 ambassadors will walk from the East London City Hall to Frere Hospital and back, handing out educational pamphlets on the way. This will be the second annual event hosted in East London.
