A high-level police search is on for suspects who are on the loose after breaking into the ANC regional offices at Oxford Street in East London in the wee hours of today.

This was confirmed by police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala who said a case of housebreaking was opened at the Fleet Street Police Station.

This after drama ensued at Dr WB Rubusana House around 1am today wherein several shots were fired by the security guard on duty but none hit the men.

"The 45-year-old security guard was on duty at the reception when he heard people talking in the kitchen which is at the back of the building," said Mali.

"It came to his realisation that these were intruders since they did not enter via the entrance in front and he fired several shots with a 9mm towards the kitchen hitting the wall."
