The case against a Breidbach man accused of murdering his wife before burying her under her bed was again postponed in the King William’s Town Magistrate’s Court this week.

The court heard that the police had not yet finalised their investigation.

The accused, Vernon Baartjies, was remanded in custody until December1.

He was earlier denied bail for the alleged murder of his 36-year-old wife, Carmelita Baartjies.

A second man, who was arrested with the accused and who was initially thought to have participated in the gruesome murder, was released by the police on September 27.

Police spokeswoman Captain Siphokazi Mawisa said charges against the second man were withdrawn pending a laboratory report. — zwangam@dispatch.co.za
