World boxing champion Zolani Tete’s Mdantsane NU17 home was burgled over the weekend by thugs who stole some of his property, including a television set.

Tete is in Johannesburg preparing for his upcoming title fight in Northern Ireland on November 18.

The burglary incident has been confirmed by the police and the boxer’s manager, Mla Tengimfene.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch yesterday, Tengimfene said the break-in would not derail Tete’s preparation for the fight.

“We can confirm that the house was burgled and we noticed that the television set was taken and we suspect that maybe his training shoes were also stolen,” said Tengimfene.

He said they would know of the value or what else was stolen when Tete returned from the fight.

“He’s the one who knows his property better than us and he will be able to identify what is missing.”

According to Tengimfene, the only person who was in the house at the time was Tete’s cousin.

“He left the house and went to Highways and apparently he forgot to switch on the alarm and that’s when the person or people took advantage and broke into the house.

“The burglar gate was pulled and left damaged and they took what they could take,” said Tengimfene.

Tengimfene said the cousin told Tete of the incident.

“His cousin called him and we also did tell him about this burglary and because of his professionalism he said he would focus on his preparation for the fight.”

Police spokesman, Captain Mluleki Mbi confirmed that police had opened a case of housebreaking.

“A plasma television set was stolen and only when Tete returns will we know of other things that were taken from his house,” said Mbi. — bonganif@dispatch.co.za
