St Dominic's and Life Beacon Bay hospitals have rubbished rumours that they informed East London residents of water contamination in the city.
In a statement sent out by the hospitals, it distanced itself from the voice note that was doing the rounds on social media, about tap water being contaminated.
In the voice note, a man can be heard saying that he was informed by St Dominic's and Beacon Bay hospitals that scores of residents are being treated for stomach viruses due to contaminated water.
Regional manager Bruce Janssens said: “Neither Life Beacon Bay Hospital nor Life St Dominic’s Hospital are receiving patients with symptoms of water contamination.
"In addition, Life Healthcare has not made contact with schools or any other institutions in this regard.”
BCM spokesman Samkelo Ngwenya said the metro water claims were unfounded. “We carry out daily and weekly testing of drinking supplies throughout BCM and have not identified any issues or areas of concern," said Ngwenya.
“We are used to such claims being made whenever routine outbreaks of gastro infections arise. Please be advised that out emergency incident protocols will be implemented and made public in any such instance.”
