No learning as pupils cry foul over meals at EC school

Teaching and learning came to a grounding halt at St Thomas School for the Deaf today after pupils went on strike after not being given meals since yesterday.

School governing body chairwoman Nomhle Nyanda blamed principal Zet Jizana for not applying the law.

"The principal fails to apply the law. There is food but no one to cook it. We want the principal gone. This man is unable to make workers to apply the policies," Nyanda said.

Jizana said he was not allowed to speak to the media and referred questions to the department.

When the DispatchLIVE team arrived at the school, pupils blockaded the gate.

However, deputy principal Bonisile Radoni said the school was functioning normally.
