After a brief protest held by staff at the Joan Harrison pools this morning, the pool has now been reopened to the public following an intense meeting with the management.
East London’s Joan Harrison pools were shut down as workers forced swimmers to leave the premises, locking themselves inside.
The pool has been open for just over three weeks after staff resumed work after a week-long illegal strike over wages.
It is believed that today’s unhappiness is related to deductions over this period.
About 60 pupils from Buffalo Flats Primary School, along with their teachers, were evacuated from the swimming pool this morning following the dispute of a 40% deduction made to salaries across all staff at the swimming amenities.
Law-enforcement officials struggled to enter the facility, after they were called to the scene by school principal Neville Goss.
Goss said he was notified by teachers accompanying the children, that they were forced to leave the pool despite having forked out about R500 to use the pools for the day. The pools only opened after their winter shutdown on October 16.
