South Africa’s celebrated and renowned acapella gospel outfit, Masibuyele kuJehova will return to the Eastern Cape next week for two shows.

The six-member group which is based in Nelspruit in Mpumalanga last performed in the province in the early 2000 in East London.

The first show is scheduled for the Mthatha Town Hall on Friday December 8, at 7pm while the second show will be at East London’s ULoyiso Community Church on December 10, at 1pm.

Masibuyele kuJehova last perfumed in Mthatha at the Independent Stadium in 1995 just after the release of their second album, EGetsame.

Group lead singer Fifi Mabuza said they were excited to return to the province to reunite with their fans.

“We have already started with rehearsals and will bring revival in a form of a song,” she said.

The group was formed in 1988 and they released their debut album called We All Know Jesus is Coming in 1994.

The group became a house-hold name with popular songs like Silindel’usuku (We Bangcwele), Ngizokwendlula (kule lilizwe), and Ngiyakholwa.

To date they have a total of 13 albums.

Their other well known albums include Khay’elihle, Siza Nkosi, Kumnandi Ukukholwa and Mbonge.

They last released an album, Mbongeni, in 2015.

The Mthatha show will feature Mpumie Mkiwane and Bullie Mhatu while in East London they will be joined on stage by Veliswa Skeyi, Mawethu Madikiza, Khanyisa Sabuka and Butho Vuthela.

Founder of the group Belina Nkosi said their return to East London was a response to the demands of their fans.

“We then sat down as members and decided to go and have shows there,” she said.

Nkosi said the purpose of forming the group was to preach the word of God through music.

“Even in our old age we are still committed to that covenant we made 30 years ago,” she said.

Some of the Eastern Cape artists that will share the stage with them said they were looking forward to the event.

Skeyi said she was happy when she heard that Masibuyele kuJehova were coming to the province.

“I have learnt a lot from them and I am excited to be part of the line-up,” she said.

Vuthela said it was going to be his first time sharing the stage with the group.

“I am very excited. I have so much respect for them. I grew up listening to their music. It is going to be a great honour for me to be sharing a stage with them,” he said.

Vuthela won an award for the Best Artist during the SABC Gospel Crown Awards that were held in KZN.

“It will be a celebratory performance for me as well,” he said.
