A multi-million rand development is under way at Vincent Park mall to create a better shopping experience and to accommodate more tenants.

The revamp, due for completion in August, is expected to grow the centre’s letting area by an extra 3000m² and create over 300 new jobs, of which at least 120 are permanent or long-term employment opportunities.

At the moment work is focused on the centre’s banking wing to expand Absa Bank and Pick n Pay as well as Clicks.

Centre manager Joseph Parsley said the renovations would not impact negatively on customers or tenants.

“The mall will continue to trade uninterrupted, and we are confident that the end result will offer the community of East London and Border-Kei region a fantastic retail and shopping environment.

“Phase one includes the reconfiguration of one of our anchor tenants, Pick n Pay, which is already in progress and will be incrementally finalised and unveiled over the next eight to 10 months.

“Their floor trading area has been reduced to accommodate incoming retailers like Capitec Bank, Mr Price Sports, and a Pick n Pay Clothing store, to further strengthen the existing tenant mix offering.

“We welcome a Cupidolls store on the lower retail level next to a relocated and refurbished Behrs Shoes. Clicks will also be expanding their retail area.

“The banking wing will see Absa Bank fully refurbished and enlarged in 2018.

“The upper level retail area will see the introduction of an international retailer, set to open their doors in the second half of 2018,” he said.

Parsley said the international retailer had confirmed the hiring of 44 permanent positions.

“Vincent Park has a proud tradition of being highly responsive to the latest retail trends and international consumer expectations, and we are confident that these further investments will cement our reputation as East London’s most exclusive retail outlet.” — mbalit@dispatch.co.za
